I’ve found a way to keep breathing, do something productive AND continue preparing my trip, without adding to the growing bubble of panic in my chest: I’ve been composing the playlist of my trip.
I’ve never been a huge fan of music. I mean I do love music, it’s just that I don’t have any patience to discover new things, I never really sit down only to listen to music, it has always been a background atmosphere, or whatever people around me are listening to.
So that has been pretty new to me already, to let Deezer suggest the tracks I’m gonna be taking with me along the way. I’ve tried really hard not to put the same songs in yet another new playlist, that is really just a compilation of all the songs I already listen to, with some new additions.
Over 3 weeks of random listening, I managed to select 94 songs, adding up to a little over 6 hours of calm, soothing, relaxing and above all, beautiful music.
Here is it, my masterpiece.
But I couldn’t take a playlist without the 5 songs that sum up best my state of mind at this point in my life, not only for this trip. The 2nd one is a new addition, that I discovered only today, but the other 4 are a bit older. A lot older for Stay Alive, that has been soothing my brain for a little over 2 years now.
It’s not just the melody, the lyrics also speak to me.
5. Concrete, Tom Odell
« I’d sleep on a bed that’s made of concrete
Just the two of us and no sheet »
4. Wake me up, Aloe Blacc
« I can’t tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start »
3. Lift a Sail, Yellowcard
« When the waves come from underneath,
I am ready now, I am ready…
With the last sail lifted high,
I am ready now, I am ready now. »
2. Once In A While, Timeflies
« Once in a while, I ask myself
What am I doing? »
1. Stay Alive, José Gonzales
« In the morning watch a new day rise
We’ll do whatever just to stay alive
Well the way I feel is the way I write
It isn’t like the thoughts of the man who lies
There is a truth and it’s on our side
Dawn is coming
Open your eyes
Look into the sun as the new days rise »
6 hours and 5 minutes of music. For a trip 6 hours ahead of my home time frame.
